Crich Tramway Village is a popular attraction. The National Tramway Museum is an independent educational charity, with plenty to keep the little ones occupied. First of all, there’s the Discovery Depot, an enormous indoor play area which is great for children, including a separate ball pit and soft play area specifically for toddlers.
Crich Tramway Village provides fun for all the family. Visitors can use their backpack facility, which is full of things for families to do to make the most out of their visit. Activities include the fascinating sculpture trail and woodland walk together with the Museum’s exhibits. The Woodland Walk features many a spectacular sculpture created by local artists, and boasts beautiful views across the Derwent Valley and Derbyshire Countryside.
During the school holidays, children can also benefit from Crich Tramway Village’s workshops, featuring many a creative item the children can take away as a souvenir.
One of the main features of the Village is the Village Scene. Here, you can walk amongst the quaint street, viewing the old buildings and street furniture including the Bundy Clock at Town End Terminus, the Red Lion Pub, Rita’s Tearoom and Barnett’s Old Fashioned Sweet Shop. Listen out for the rumble of a vintage tram, and be sure to visit the Eagle Press and Bluebell’s Ice Cream Parlour along the way. Crich Tramway Village also put on events such as the 1940s, Edwardian, and the Beside the Seaside Events.
There’s plenty to see and do at the Crich Tramway Village. For those interested in the Trams themselves, visitors can stop by the workshop to see the restoration process in action. This is a vital process for the trams, as many require not only artistic restoration, but specific engine work using an age old craft.
Finally, of course, whilst visiting Crich Tramway Village, after collecting an old penny as tram fare, visitors can catch a ride on the tram. Departing regularly throughout the day, the tram ride finishes at Glory Mine where you can take in the fantastic views of the Derwent Valley.
Crich Tramway Village is a great day out for all the family. There’s plenty to see and do for all ages, ranging from fantastic walks and workshops to play areas and climbing frames. With souvenir shops, pubs and tearooms on site, the village makes for a great day out. Dogs are welcome providing they’re kept on a lead, and the village is accessible by bus, train or car. If of course you don’t manage to fit everything in on one visit, you can return within 12 months for free, as your ticket will still be valid (except for the 1940s events).
