Caudwells Mill & Craft Centre
Whilst visiting Matlock, Caudwell’s Mill and Craft Centre is well worth a look around. With free admission, you can wander round the magnificent setting, viewing the amazing art work and crafts created here. Crafts featured include artwork, a magnificent jewellery gallery, a glass studio where you can view the creators at work, a talented blacksmith and the mill.
After viewing some of the resident artists’ creations, you can stop for a break in the cafe, or wander round the array of items on sale in the gift shop. You can purchase jewellery, preserves, books, pottery and photo frames amongst much, much more. The shop also features a little something for children to spend their money on, ranging from toys to treasure chests. The shop is great if you’re looking to buy a present, with cards, knitwear, tableware and soft furnishings on sale too.
Whilst stopping by the cafe, visitors can enjoy a range of home cooked food, which is fair trade where possible. The cafe has something to suit all tastes, providing vegetarian and vegan food, all to be enjoyed whilst gazing at the excellent views and the local wildlife.
The building which houses the cafe is a story in itself, with seats and tables from a local church and constructed with wood from a Scottish corn mill. As are the other buildings on site, the cafe is full of character.
The Craft Centre can be found on the A6 in Rowsley. After looking around the craft centre, visitors can pay a small admission fee and look around the mill, viewing the machinery in the mill which was built in 1874.
Caudwell’s Mill and Craft Centre is a brilliant place to spend the afternoon. Situated on a river site, there’s plenty to see at this Derbyshire centre.
